Raman Spectroscopy

Raman spectroscopy’s merit lies in its minimal sample preparation and non-invasive nature, making it convenient and potent for analyzing and identifying minerals and stones. When paired with visualization, its investigative capabilities are further amplified.

Far-IR Spectroscopy

The far IR, also referred to as the THz range, positioned below 400 cm-1, holds significance for inorganic substance examinations, highlighting vibrations of heavier elements. This region captures external or lattice vibrations, revealing insights into crystal structures and polymorphism for both organic and inorganic solids. VERTEX 70v FTIR spectrometers present an extensive mid to far-IR beamsplitter and detector pairing, granting a seamless overview of the entire spectral band (via the VERTEX FM feature). In the mid-IR spectrum, ATR (Attenuated Total Internal Reflectance) stands out due to its ability to scrutinize raw samples, bypassing laborious preparations that could alter the sample’s characteristics. Notably, select ATR instruments are functional in the far IR courtesy of their reflective optics.

Moreover, when it comes to finer details, such as inclusions, FTIR microscopy proves invaluable.
